RPS Training Courses 2024
Legal Requirement for RPS Training
Radiation employers have a duty to provide appropriate training for all employees working with ionising radiation under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.
Reg 18 requires employers to appoint one or more Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPSs) to supervise the work according to the Local Rules. The purpose of the training is to ensure the RPS is made properly aware of the specific radiation hazard, has a good appreciation of the relative exposure risk, understands the relevant legislative controls, and is familiar with the basic principles of radiation protection in the workplace.
For guidance on the role of the RPS and training requirements please refer to
HSE Information Sheet Number 6 (Radiation Protection Supervisors)
RPS Courses
Radman Associates host two-day residential and one-day on-site RPS courses. Our RPA tutors explain the role of the RPS, including all required duties, the current legislation, and how to prepare for HSE compliance inspections.
We aim to provide a practical understanding of radiation protection principles without labouring the physics of the subject. Throughout the course attention is paid to the cornerstone of occupational radiation safety practice, namely that all exposures should be reduced to levels which are ‘as low as reasonably practicable’.
Training courses include..
- Detailed course notes
- Copy of the IRR17 regulations and Code of Practice
- PowerPoint presentations
